"INDIA TO BE A DEVELOPED NATION BY 2047"

This year India has celebrated its 76th independence day as 75th Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on 15th of August. On this day, India got independence after a century long fight from Britishers. We pay tribute to all the freedom fighters from  Mahatma Gandhi to Bhagat Singh, especially the unsung warrior of India who is none other than Subhash Chandra Bose and various others who got martyred in the fight for independence of the nation. After the Independence we have came so far from a scattered piece of territory to a country with fastest growing economy.

HOW FAR HAVE WE COME?

Reunification of India:

Britishers divided India into two parts i.e. the territory of India and the dominion of Pakistan. At that time every princely state has its own choice either to access to India or Pakistan and they can also be independent. Here comes the great role of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and V.P. Menon who integrated the 565 princely states of then India into a single unified country which we see today. This seems easy here but it was really a Herculean task. This included getting the hold of Kashmir, Hyderabad and Junagarh.
Imagine if Reunification didn't take place then Each Indian states will be considered as a country and there will be instability in the development. Each state will be using their military to protect their territory from each other rather than building up military against China and Pakistan and the inter-state disputes will be the reason of the conflict.

Economical Condition of India:

British crown looted $45 Trillion of India and raw materials like Kohinoor and De-Industrialized India, the thumb of Indian weavers were cut off. At that time the per capita income of India was only $2.8. There was poverty and unemployment all over the nation. So at that time Indian govt. focus on rapid industrialization which included:
Green Revolution 1960(Increase in food grain production)
White Revolution 1970(To be largest milk producer)
Blue Revolution 1990(Rise in aquaculture production)
and also various schemes like Five year plans, Liberalization, Privatization and Globalization of Indian Economy and most importantly the boost to be self reliant under "Make In India" initiative which has made India the fastest growing economy of the world. Currently, several global companies are tying up with India to open their manufacturing units here.

Literacy:

After independence, 4 out of 5 people couldn't read and the literacy rate was only 12%. Now, after implementation of schemes like Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Mid Day Meal helped the students to find their way to school. Later we had only few professional institutions but now India is a pool of talent and is giving CEOs to most of the Tech. companies. The New Education Policy proposed by the govt. clearly aims for the development of skills and a specified curriculum for better learning in the institutions. The Educational infrastructure in India is already sufficient but what we need is devoted teachers, better execution of curriculum defined by the Board, quality schools in the rural areas. A proper allocation of budget and consistent policies in Education will open up several avenues for growth of students in India.

Democracy:

When asked about self governance of India, to then British PM Winston Churchill, he stated,

“If Independence is granted to India, power will go to the hands of rascals, rogues, freebooters; all Indian leaders will be of low calibre and men of straw."
Seeing the current situation of Indian Democracy, Even kids around the world found this statement hilarious. Today, India is a secular country with the world's largest democracy.India has witnessed several legend leaders which included Subhash Chandra Bose (who laid the foundation of Indian National Army)Dr. B.R. Ambedkar(with his committee prepared The Constitution of India), Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam(Missile Man of India).

Being the country of $1.4 billion population, the sanctity of the election procedure is still same and conducted without failure. Even though facing several ill phases of the country, India has build up world class infrastructure, alleviated poverty, sending Indians to space, winning gold medals etc. Today, it doesn't matter how many religions are there in India but what matters is we have UNITY IN DIVERSITY.

WAYS TO BE A DEVELOPED COUNTRY:

Countries are judged to be developed on the basis of two factors one is the GDP(Gross Domestic Product) and other is the per capita income of the country. As compared to the other countries,India is one of the fastest growing GDP but talking about the per capita income its nearly $1900 which is far away from developed countries like US with $60,000 Japan with $38,000.
For increasing the per capita income our main areas of concern should be:
 1. Making India self reliant especially in the Technological and  Electronic market. India has enormous population of engineers which are the source of innovation to the country. Setting up of such manufacturing units and industries will result in the employment and decrease poverty. Recently, Indian firms has successfully prepared semi-conductor chips in India which can be a source of employment for the country and the establishment of 5G network across India is already on the go.

2. India is heavily dependent on conventional sources of energy and a huge chunk of Indian money wastes in importing petroleum, coal and natural gases. On the other hand India is looking forward to switch to green fuels (like green hydrogen, ethanol blended petroleum, electric cars) to reduce the carbon emission and dependency on oil. If India is enable to find the most effective method of production of green hydrogen and segregate it from its other forms then this can heavily benefit India.

3. Investment in Infrastructure across India will not only make it more potential for Foreign Investments but also make it way for creating employment. Urbanizing the rural population of India will help the farmers to come to the cities and also decrease Disguised unemployment as India's farming population is so prominent. This migrated population from the village will get a job in manufacturing in the city that result in the contribution to the economy.

CONCLUSION:

The biggest asset of a country is its youth and India has the biggest youth population in the world, but our most of the youth is going towards a job to get a stable lifestyle while on the hand the youth that India requires is who sees the world from different mindset and rather than seeking for jobs they create jobs. The no. of start ups and unicorns in India are increasing day by day and according to several economist, in just 10-15 yrs the expected per capita income of the country will be 10,000 USD and India will achieve the $5 trillion economy by 2027.Most of the journalists and bureaucrats sometimes compare the development between India and Pakistan, as both the countries got the independence at the same time but the irony is that Pakistan is no where  in the race towards developments. India should focus on itself more and compete with countries who had got independence after India and still they're developed.

INDIA's PERFORMANCE IN COMMONWEALTH 2022

The Indian contingent ended up with the impressive tally of 61 medals (22 golds, 16 silvers and 23 bronzes) and secured 4th rank in the Commonwealth 2022 held in Birmingham. The country won 4 gold medals on the final day of action as there was a hat-trick of victories in Badminton with P.V. Sindhu, Lakshya Sen and Satwik Rankireddy /Chirag Shetty winning the women's singles, men's singles and men's doubles title. Sharath Kamal added the cherry on the cake by clinching the gold medal in the men's table tennis single's event.

Women's T-20 Cricket, Beach Volleyball and Para Table Tennis have been included in this Games.

COMPARISON WITH PREVIOUS PERFORMANCE:

Talking about the previous performance India lost its face value by scoring 5 less medals but this event was more momentous as Indian athletes achieved several benchmarks in different sports. In 2018, India got 66 medals(26 golds, 20 silvers and bronze each).
The main reason is that India's most successful event in CW history i.e. Shooting was excluded this year. IN 2018 itself, India won 18 medals in this sports. One can only imagine how high India could have finished in the medal tally if shooting was part of the roaster in Birmingham.

In 2010, India performed its best in CW by clinching 101 medals(38 golds, 27 silvers and 36 bronzes) , securing 2nd rank in the medal tally. India had an advantage of hosting the CW Games in 2010 with inclusion of sports like archery, wrestling and tennis.

NEW BENCHMARKS FOR INDIA:

Avinash Sable (Silver in 3000-m steeplechase)

He became the first person in Indian history to win a medal in this event. A minimal margin of 5 microseconds separated him from Gold medal winner. He came into the race after an unexpected after an 11th place finish in the recently concluded World Athletics Championship in Oregon, US.

Lawn Bowl Women's Four Golds

The quartet of  Lovely Choubey, Pinki, Nayanmoni Saikia and Ruparani  Tirkey stunned the world by winning gold after defeating top teams like New Zealand and Australia. They should be credited by introducing the discipline to India.

Gold and Silver in Men's Triple Jump:

In the track and field events two Indians introduced themselves to the world, Eldose Paul surprised everyone by hitting 17.03 m and winning gold medal while on the other hand Abdulla Aboobacker jumped 17.02 m and won silver medal. Both created history by ending up standing in the podium on top positions and made it more memorable.

Four Medals at age of 40

Achanta Sharath performed extraordinarily by clinching gold at the final day events. He made a comeback after 16 years. Doing this at this age made it even more proud for India.

Tejaswin Shankar Bronze

After some controversies Tejaswin Shankar reached  Birmingham and won the bronze medal in men's high jump event by jumping 2.22 m to achieve the feat despite all odds.

BEST PERFORMANCES W.R.T. SPORTS:

Wrestling:

India has won 12 medals in this event, the same they won in 2018 but this time with an additional gold medal.

Weightlifting:

After wrestling India performed their best in weightlifting haul by getting 10 medals, they got one extra medal from last time with 3 gold medals.

Table Tennis

This time India clinched 7 medals which is one less medal from 2018 but witnessed extraordinary performance of Achanta Sharath.

Boxing

It was another sports where India fell off from 2018 by getting 7 medals with 3 gold medals. In 2018, India got a total of 9 medals with 3 golds.

Badminton

India matched the medal tally of 2018 in this game. They also achieved three podium finishes this time.

Athletics

Despite the big Neeraj Chopra shape hole, India enhanced its performance by winning 8 medals which is significantly more than 3 which they won in 2018.

Squash

India matched its performance in 2018 but this time won two bronze medals as compared to previous two silver medals.

Lawn Bowls

For the first time in history India got two medals with one gold in women's four. This game was included since inception and this was the first time when India got medals in this game.

Judo

While Judo wasn't included in 2018 games, this time India won three medals with 2 silvers and 1 bronze in Birmingham.

Cricket

The Women's T-20 cricket was the first time included in CWG this year and India won the historic silver medal under captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur.

Hockey

In 2018, both men's and women's hockey team missed medals and shocked the world. But this time Indian women's hockey team won bronze while men's hockey team won silver medal in the games this year.

Para-Powerlifting:

India got one medal same as in 2018 this year. However, this time around there was a gold for nation to celebrate.

CONCLUSION:

This year India's performance in Commonwealth Games Birmingham was momentous. Indian athletes and players have performed their best and made several scriptions in the record books. As compared to the medal tally of previous Games the no. of medals are less but the performance of Indian players had made them to win medals in new games and also set up several benchmarks in Athletics, Wrestling, Men's triple jump, Lawn Bowl and many more games.
Due to lack of infrastructure in Birmingham, Shooting and Archery was not the part of this games. If these events were included then India will definitely end up with 2nd rank in the Medal Tally. But there are several lessons to learn that if proper investment in sports infrastructure and acquisition of skilled coaches is done at basic level, then the day is not far when we will witness several world records by Indian Players.

THE GLIMPSE OF INDIAN ECONOMY

INTRODUCTION:

~India is currently $3.3 trillion economy and aims to be $5 trillion economy till 2025.
~India surpassed China as the fastest growing economy of the world with GDP(Gross Domestic Product) rate increased from 7.9% to 8.2% in 2022, actually its approximately 2 times Chinese economy i.e., 4.4% because 4000 banks in China reported to be going bankrupt.
~Indian economy has bounced back owing to improvement in electricity generation, better mining production, rebound in the farm output and higher flow of foreign investment.
~Indian GDP dependency:
           54%        - Service Industries
         29%        - Industrial Sector
              17%        - Agricultural Sector
~ Currently, India constitutes half a billion workforce.

RECAP FROM POST INDEPENDENCE:

~Immediately after Independence India focused on growth of public and rural sector. But from 1960s Agriculture in India witnessed Green Revolution(by M.S. Swaminathan) which brought new modern industrial system with adoption of technology(Use of HYV seeds, mechanized farm tools, pesticides, irrigation facilities, fertilizers).
~ The first liberalization of the economy was taken up in mid 1980s by easing restrictions on capacity expansion, reduced corporate taxes and removed price controls.
~ As Indian economy was primarily import driven, In 1991 due to high balance of payments India faced a serious economic crisis which resulted in severe depletion of foreign exchange reserves.

After getting IMF(International Monetary Fund) bailout in return of 67 tons of Indian Gold reserves as collateral, India initiated LPG( Liberalization, Globalization, Privatization) Policy some of the salient highlights are:
#Foreign Technology Agreements to allow transfer of technology for setting                          production lines in India.
#Encouraging Foreign Investments by easing regulatory norms.
#Industrial licensing policies were relaxed and made investor friendly.
#Initiation of privatization commenced through public-private partnership.
            #Removing certain Trade Barriers.
            #Steps to regulate inflation.
#Tax reforms were proposed and uniform taxation policy was initiated.
Outcome of these re-organisations are mostly positives which rose the overseas investment from a mere $132 million in 1991-1992 to $5.3 billion in 1995-1996 in the country.

MEASURES TAKEN:

~Initiated Production Linked Incentive(PLI) Schemes in 13 sectors.
~Mega Investments in Textile Parks (MITRA), 7 such parks were created
~Expansion of National Infrastructure Pipeline(NIP), by adding 7400 projects.
~India's step to boost MAKE IN INDIA campaign for self reliance.
~Sharp increase in the capital budget

IMPORTANT POINTS TO PONDER:

~RUPEE DEPRECIATING AGAINST DOLLAR!!

#If demand of Dollar is higher than its supply against Rupee in the international market, then Rupee will depreciate.

#India imports more than it exports and payments to exporters are based on Dollars so the demand of Dollar increases.

#US steps in WW-I and WW-II  to be "War Merchant first and then War Participant" and policies like "Bretton Woods Agreement", "Love Affair of US with Oil" has made US a strong global currency.

#RBI's new strategy can kill US Dollar dominance.....

Now domestic traders can settle their trade with Indian Rupee as US has sanctioned to seize $300 million of Russia from Swift network which created challenges for various countries to trade with Russia and get goods at much cheaper cost.
India can also trade with other US sanctioned countries like Venezuela and Iran. This list also includes UAE.

~INFLATION RISING IN INDIA!!

#Inflation is increase in rate of price of goods over a period of time and occurs when the demand is more than the supply.
#The agricultural scarcity accruing due to climate change, damage of transit, and lack of cold chains/warehouses for storing food grains creates a scarcity causing high inflationary pressure.
#The high cost of labor increases the production cost and leads to high in price for the commodity.
Hence, enhanced demand due to growing middle class population and reduced supply due to scarcity of commodities or it's high production has resulted in rise in inflation.

CONCLUSION:

Following steps can be taken for maintaining sustained growth path for the Indian Economy;
~Promoting manufacturing sector(investment vitalized in R&D, skilled workforce, world class infrastructure to attract FDI, consistency in policy)
~Deregulation of processes and decentralization of authority to speed up results in grounds.
~Impetus needs to be given to Agricultural sector by putting money in the pockets of farmers, better pricing of agro-products, warehousing of storage and minimizing losses of food products and qualitatively improving crops.
~Retrospect taxation and Tax Terrorism . The taxation policies must be clear, concise and standardized.
~Strict regulation for imports of mass consumption commodities and compel such brands "Manufacture in India for Consumption in India".

"India is currently the import driven country and to be a economical superpower, India has the largest youth population which is an asset for us, so investment of resources in the right field can boost the domestic industries of India to attract countries in the South-East Asia, Central Asia, and even the Middle East for Indian Manufactured Goods that will consequently improve the economy of India."

CONCLUSION

In the recent area, the Indian Armed Forces are getting modernized to be in global order and this modernization will help to achieve several heights by increasing the efficiency of forces to operate, becoming a strong competitor against the superpowers and to enhance our capabilities to protect our land, skies and marine. Last but not the least is that being modernized is today's requirement but it also reduces manpower and ITS NOT THE MACHINE BUT THE MAN BEHIND THE MACHINE, the example we have witnessed in 2019 when our IAF pilot Wg. Cdr. Abhinandan Vardhaman has defeated the US build Pak F-16 jets with ageing MiG-21.

Indian Armed Forces teaches their officers THE CHETWODE MOTTO
The safety, honour and welfare of your country come first, always and every time.
The honour, welfare and comfort of the men you command come next.
Your own ease, comfort and safety come last, always and every time."
Soldier of a country battles several fronts, lets not create another through internal disturbances. So lets not forget the strength of our country which symbolizes the armed forces of our country is unity of its diversity.
